Kaffee Fassett's Quilts in Morocco

$24.95

The 16th book in Kaffe's acclaimed series showcases 20 brilliant quilts in the historic location of Fez in Morocco. With its strong rich colors and beautiful mosaics, Fez makes the perfect setting for a brilliant new collection from Kaffe and his chosen designers. Kaffe's own quilts feature new fabrics, including Belle Epoch, an intricate paisley used to great effect in the broad vertical stripes of his Paisley Columns quilt; and Flame Stitch, with its deep zigzags of color showing perfectly in the Strata quilt. For lovers of florals, there are beautiful quilts featuring the Brocade Peony, Gertrude, Joy, and flowery Bouffant fabrics. In addition to the traditional gallery of quilts, all photographed on location in Fez by Debbie Patterson, the book has Kaffe’s wonderfully detailed step-by-step instructions and diagrams for each quilt. Softcover, 144 pages, published in 2014. Kaffe Fassett, an accomplished painter, and designer of textiles is widely acknowledged as a visionary in the use of color. In 1988 he was the first living textile designer to be given a one-person show at the V&A in London. He is a fabric designer for Rowan Patchwork and Quilting and the primary knitwear designer for Rowan Yarns.

Kaffe Fassett has led an extraordinary life and is a world-renowned textile artist. Born in 1937, he spent much of his youth in Big Sur, California, where his parents bought a cabin from Orson Welles and transformed it into the world-famous Nepenthe restaurant, a gathering place for artists and bohemians. After attending a boarding school run by the disciples of Krishnamurti, an Indian guru, he studied painting at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, then traveled to England, where he made his home. After an inspiring trip to Inverness, Scotland, Fassett began designing knitwear for Bill Gibb, and then the Missonis, Vogue magazine, and private clients like Lauren Bacall and Barbra Streisand, and, in the process, revolutionized the handknitting world with his explosive use of color. Further explorations led him to needlepoint, mosaics, rugmaking, tapestries, yarn and fabric design, costume and set design, and quilting. Fassett continues to produce new work and travels worldwide to teach and lecture and has recently collaborated with Coach New York. Please visit our profile on Kaffe to learn more!
