Every year she travels to India, where she has been working with the same gem merchant for over twenty years. Using Vasant's designs her handpicked gems go to skilled Indian metalsmiths. The resulting jewelry then travels to America, where it makes its way to the Phoenix Shop. Vasant seeks to represent the resplendent beauty and stark austerity of India in her jewelry pieces.
