Goph Albitz's professional jewelry career began in the late 1960s by selling his handmade jewelry at Joan Baez concerts at Esalen Institute in Big Sur. His long-standing association with the Phoenix Shop at Nepenthe began in the late summer of 1969. For many years Goph maintained studios in Big Sur, before eventually moving to his own designer showroom in Carmel. The thread running through his design work was epitomized by exquisite stone inlays set in precious metals. In 1997 Goph moved his studio to Bend, Oregon, and started producing his highly acclaimed, one-of-a-kind "Simply Cool" series: sterling and high karat mixed metal band rings and cuff bracelets that were sprinkled with diamonds and dramatically highlighted gemstones.
